Overview

We live in a couch potato culture, where physical activity is no longer part of our daily routine. Rather than playing sports or participating in other outdoor activities, we go to the movies or rent a DVD instead. We learn this couch potato behavior and also pass it on to our children. Instead of playing outside after school, children sit in front of the television with afternoon snacks playing video games or "chatting" on the computer with their friends. Studies show that children nowadays mistake any form of physical activity as exercise and they are not aware of their own inactivity. It is no wonder there is a high incidence of obesity-related problems in our country. How about us? What does our own overall fitness look like?

The good news is: it is never too late or too early to get started on exercise ! We should aim to be active every day, and exercise at any age can improve our health. Get started today! Work exercise into your daily or weekly routine - pick up that mop and clean your house, walk to the nearby post office instead of driving the 2-mile distance, lift those weights while you watch Grey's Anatomy.
